Time is getting closer!

Just one more day of working and my holidays start. Which means it is also just 5 days away from take off. Now really things are getting excited. Today I studied about the volcanos, because on an aurora site I noticed also a volcano activity link. I know Iceland has the most active volcanos within their borders in the world. 24 of them. And some are dangerously close to (fatal) eruptions. One of them being the feared Katla, which erupts every 80-100 years, with its last eruption in 2010. I know the volcanos and especially this one is monitored very very intens. But the idea that going to Thórsmork will mean approaching this sleeping beauty (or to be honest almost walk on its glacial surface) somehow triggers human fright and awe to my body. I know all Iceland is geofysicaly a dangerzone, but I am sure very very aware that Iceland is a country that is naturally hazardous. All I know and what comforts me is that if anything should happen in this matter, I'd die in a way that would honor my believes. In all forms. So, in case it will happen, no one should worry about me. Just leave me there, and I come ghosting around one way or another ;-)

But well... of course I will come back. Like said, volcanos are monitored, and eventhough today and yesterday the Earth has rumbled around another volcanic range in Reykjanes, I feel ok and content to go. I have survived San Francisco too and the Big One hasnt stroke in those 20 years that passed either. I do quietly hope to see some volcanic activity however. From a safe distance that is!

I was looking for Northern Light expectations of course....
I have begun with following the rotations of the sun, as important coronal holes and sunspots will appear now. To my surprise a larger complex has appeared, but not yet there is any information about its flares. They seem to slumber at the SDO/HMI who monitors. I am dieing with curiousity really. This upcoming days activity will spark, but Monday and Tuesday it will drop again to quiet. Quiet is still enough to see auroras, but 'active' will be better of course. And then, after Wednesday it should go on again, if this new appearing sunspot will thrash out some solar flames. According to the weather forcast, Wednesday will be a clear day. Too good, if it can only happen to me to swimm in the Blaa Loonid (Blue Lagoon) underneath Milky Way and Auroras... then my trip to Iceland is a succes allready. Not mentioning the next 3 days will be rainy.... on Thursday even raining all day. Just when I have my Northern Light excursion. Too bad... But... weather in Iceland is unpredictable. One moment the sun shines, the other a bitter wind brings snow and cold. Weather never stays the same way for long.

So... one day of working left, and then I can start packing up. You simply can't imagine how darn excited I am to go. Allready I regret not going longer. I thought I had booked for 5 nights too, but it is only 4 (what was I thinking?). I have too much travel plans going through my mind. Want to go see northeastern Iceland. Figuring out a way how, because I doubt it I would ever go drive all by myself in Iceland. If only 4-5 cars will pass on even the No 1 road a day... Nah... But the magic of this Northeast caught my attention. It is said to be even much more beautifull than the all touristic route I will follow. I know I am just having an introduction to Iceland here now. ;-) And... to find out why Iceland is craving so much to me. What is her magic telling me to do? I may not find this answer easily. But I am sure I will smile when I arrive. Even if it rains!

I really dislike it to not put pictures in this blog yet. Just because I don't like too much to use not my own pictures. Some are just too beautifull to not use. And if the weather is against me I sure won't come home with too much impressive pictures. But I hope luck is on my side and I only have 2 days of rain.
